Majestic!

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?” Psalm 8:3-4

The 8th Psalm begins and ends with the same phrase, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Thy name in all the earth!” David was no doubt in awe of God’s omnipotence and His creative ability is indeed awesome. Yet, in the midst of His majestic creation He has chosen to concern Himself far more with the needs and desires of mankind than with the moon and the stars or the beasts of the field. He’s placed those things, as well as the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea under man’s feet and has concentrated His lovingkindness, His promises and His direction upon the heart and the future of man.

All God’s works are temporary and will one day be replaced by a new heaven and a new earth according to Revelation 21:1. All creation will be replaced except man whose eternal soul matters so much to our Lord that He sent His only Son so that man might have eternal life in His presence. No wonder David was so awed and humbled by our Lord. How amazing is the thought of eternity in the presence of such majesty!
