“Praise the LORD! … He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:1, 3
Do you need healing today? Perhaps you need peace, comfort or deliverance? Then give praise to the Lord who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Praise Him today and know that because you’ve cried out to Him you can trust Him to respond lovingly and mercifully according to His word. Praise the Lord and thank Him for His healing touch and lift up to Him others who are hurting so they might call upon His name and be healed as well. He’s your healer and you can live victoriously and confidently because He’s at work in your life and give Him praise!
Our Lord is so good to us! Not only does He heal our physical wounds but our emotional and spiritual wounds as well. Praise Him today; trust Him with your needs and give Him thanks for all He will do!

See What the Word Can Do
“‘Is not My word like fire?’ declares the LORD, ‘and like a hammer which shatters a rock?’” Jeremiah 23:29
There quite simply is no other book that compares with the powerful word of God, none even comes close. I’ve often said that even if I only had one book of the Bible or even just one chapter, maybe even just one verse available to me I believe I would glean more truth and more of God’s nature and His love for me with every reading. The word is the primary way God speaks to our hearts because we can pick up that powerful, living letter whenever we need guidance or encouragement. No other book is like fire and no other like a hammer with the power to shatter a rock, yet at the same time impart such love, comfort, peace and truth as the holy word of God.
The truest source of wisdom, God’s enduring word has the power to redeem, deliver and sanctify. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12.

Don’t Miss Today in Worrying About Tomorrow
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
You can trust God to take care of you today, as well as tomorrow because He is more than able to meet every need according to His riches in glory. You can trust Him to order every step and keep you in perfect peace as you place your trust in Him and rejoice in all that He is. Even in the midst of the most troubling of circumstances He is able to fill you with joy and peace when you surrender those circumstances to His authority. He’ll even guard your heart so that you can concentrate on His goodness today so you’ll not worry about what tomorrow might bring.
Not only is worrying about what tomorrow might bring contrary to God’s word it’s borrowing trouble and you just might miss today’s blessings by worrying about the future.

A Sacrifice of Praise
“Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:15-16
Let’s bring a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving before our Lord today. Oh, that every though, word and deed would reflect praise and bring honor and glory to Him. Oh that we would truly desire to do good, to share of ourselves, our time and our talents; all things He’s blessed us with for His good pleasure. Oh, that He would truly be pleased with our use of those gifts. I pray that He would continually remind me that I desire a Christlike attitude and an attitude of praise as I go about the business of today.
Praise isn’t just something we do vocally; we praise God with our service to others and with an attitude of humility and thankfulness.

The Eternal Purpose
“This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him.” Ephesians 3:11-12
Do you realize what a privilege it is to have direct access to God’s throne room and to be able to enter directly into His Holy Presence? In accordance with His eternal purpose we can enter His courts with praise and with confidence. What a privileged people we are! Aren’t we truly blessed? We can believe that He can do all things and all we need to do is ask Him to increase our faith in the areas where it is lacking. That price that was paid on the cross was paid so we could have this privilege and I pray that I would never take access to my Father lightly.
It was God’s plan from the very beginning of time that mankind would have confident access to His throne and He carried out that plan through the Baby in the manger and His death on the cross; His eternal purpose carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Bought With a Price
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
I hope I would never again forget that I have been bought with a price and that I am truly no longer my own. I’m so thankful for the precious Holy Spirit that guides, comforts and teaches me and I pray that I would always listen and walk where His Spirit directs. I pray that all I say and do would bring honor and glory to Him because too high a price was paid for me to do otherwise.
As you begin to wind down from the hustle and bustle of the season know that the Child Whose birth was heralded by angels eventually hung on an old rugged cross; the place where you were bought with the ultimate price.

Merry CHRISTmas
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
I pray that I would never forget that God has a plan; first for mankind throughout the ages and then a personally tailored plan for me and for you and your loved ones as well. He sees our every circumstance, knows our hearts deepest desires and He’s sovereign over every one of our life’s situations, both big and small. He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace. Let Him forever rule and reign in your heart and allow all your burdens to rest upon His shoulders today.
As you spend time with family and friends today do take time to reflect upon God’s plan for the ages and His plan for you – to give you a future and a hope (see Jeremiah 29:11). All made possible by the Wonderful Counselor, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace! Have a blessed and merry CHRISTmas!

The Ultimate Gift
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” Luke 2:14
Inevitably I always end up with at least one person on my Christmas list that is so difficult to shop for that I wait until almost the very last minute before I find a gift that is just right and I imagine stores will be full of other last minute shoppers today who are in that very same situation. But the most glorious gift ever given has already been freely bestowed on any who would receive it. This perfect, and perfectly planned for, gift required the ultimate sacrifice and was given out of perfect love. Have you thanked God and have you give Him the praise and glory He so richly deserves for that wonderful gift? Have you taken the time to remember during this most busy of seasons that He sent His only begotten Son, the Prince of Peace to dwell among men so we might experience salvation and eternal life? This precious gift was given to the entire world, not just a select few, and it is my prayer that all those we love would come to know Him and understand the true wonder and glory of this precious gift and that they would one day come to understand this gift was freely and lavishly given for them.
The most precious gift that has ever been given was announced to shepherds as they tended their flocks by night. This ultimate gift is truly for everyone. Glory to God in the highest!

Set the Lord Continually Before You
“I have set the LORD continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8
I pray that I will be unshakable today and that I would remember that God is always with me to provide help, direction, wisdom and comfort so that I never have to operate on my own steam because when I do I always fail. I will set the Lord continually before me today knowing that I can cry out to Him at a moments notice and that He will hear and He will surely answer.
When I make a conscious commitment to set the Lord continually before me I’m not so likely to be shaken by the cares and the distractions of daily life. When I begin my day with that commitment I am continually reminded of His presence and the perfect peace that accompanies that presence accompanies me as well.

The LORD Is His Name
“He who made the Pleiades and Orion and changes deep darkness into morning, Who also darkens day into night, Who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, The LORD is His name.” Amos 5:8
Our Lord is truly awesome and holy; give Him praise today for all the mighty things He’s done and not just for those things but because He alone is God. He knows every star, He changes the darkness into light and He has blessed us beyond measure. Bask in His holiness and thank Him for all that He is and all He is to you.
I am in awe of all the intricacies of the world that God created and the order that is part of that creation. I am even more in awe of the fact that the Creator loves me so much that He would seek to have a relationship with me and to call me His own! This awesome creator is the LORD; that is His name.

Angels
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2
Wouldn’t it be awesome to entertain an angel? Wouldn’t it be even better to truly meet the need of someone who is lost or hurting? Ask God to order your steps today, and to help you recognize opportunities to meet the needs of others. We can make a difference in the lives of others if we are willing to give of ourselves and sometimes it doesn’t take more than a kind word or a friendly smile. Be an example of patience, love and Christlikeness to all you encounter today and strive to put others first. Treat everyone you meet today as though they were angels and see just how much you’ll be blessed in turn.
During the holiday season it often seems that I am more hurried than usual, making my own plans and becoming annoyed when my plans take a detour. There is no better time than during the season of hustle and bustle ( as well as the season when we sing of angels) for me to be reminded that I might have eternal impact on the very ones who might derail me for a moment and in that very derailment I might also be blessed beyond measure!

Who is Looking to You?
“Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock..” 1 Peter 5:1-3
I’ve found through over thirty years of serving that Lord that we are all called to ministry in one way or another. Some minister in the church in very specific ways, like pastors, elders, teachers and evangelists. Some who sit under those ministries are being equipped to then go out into the workplace, the neighborhood and even our families to minister. We are also witnesses in the world to the glory of God and it is an awesome responsibility that we cannot take lightly. We will always be able to find someone in the world who needs what we have and it is through our testimony and our willingness to share it that we become mentors to those who may not be as far along in their Christian walk or who are lost or hurting. We all have a place in ministry.
God has given each of us a place to minister and there are people within our sphere of influence that look to us to guide, mentor and exhort them. Who is watching you?

Call Upon the Lord
“I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.” Psalm 18:3
Who do you call upon in times of need; the doctor, the bank, a pill or a counselor? Or do you call upon the Lord, the one who is worthy of all praise and seek His direction and His guidance before seeking other help? Sure, sometimes the doctor and the medication he prescribes are just what is needed in your particular circumstance but be aware that the worlds system of dealing with difficulties is much different from God’s. Remember that He has all the answers all the time and that His counsel is always faithful and always righteous. Whatever enemy needs overcoming in your life it can only be overcome once and for all by the Lord’s power working within. Call upon Him today for whatever your need whether it’s physical, emotional, spiritual, or financial and He’ll equip you for victory,
The victory belongs to the Lord and we can be victorious over the enemy of our soul when we call upon His name.

Stay Alert
“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak.” Colossians 4:2-4
Prayer is absolutely essential to maintaining a close relationship with the Lord. According to these verses it is through prayer that we are able to recognize those doors that are open to us on a regular basis with opportunities to speak a word of truth, love or encouragement as the Holy Spirit directs. Prayer gives us insight into the mystery of Christ which enables us to minister more fully to the needs of others when we’re called upon to do so. Even when we find ourselves in situations that might cause us to be dumfounded in our own right the Holy Spirit is able to make it clear to us what we are to say, or to remain quiet if that is what is best in that situation. Prayer is essential if we are to stay alert and thankful in every situation and circumstance that comes our way.
It is devotion to prayer that keeps us close to Him and it is through devotion to hearing His voice and obeying that we see His hand at work in our lives. Pray and then be ever on the alert for what He might direct you to do or say today and see what doors open up as a result.

Watch Your Step
“…so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.” Colossians 1:10-12
I pray that I would walk in a manner that is pleasing to my Heavenly Father today and that I would be fruitful and continually seeking His face, His wisdom and His power in all I undertake. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle I pray that I would remain teachable, steadfast and patient. I find so many people are down and disheartened during the holidays because it is such a busy time and there are so many distractions; hearts are pulled in so many directions. I pray that He would cultivate a spirit of joy and thankfulness in me so that I might serve as an example to others as one who truly shares in the inheritance of the saints no matter what goes on in the world around me.
Whether we realize it or not people are watching the way we walk, they are taking notice of the fruit we produce and whether or not God’s power is at work in our lives. It’s especially important during the Christmas season that Christians walk in a manner that pleases Him. Do you walk like one who shares in the inheritance of the saints?

A Promise Kept
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12
Through Jesus Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled and God did just what He promised to do for the world. On a more personal level aren’t you thankful that because of Jesus you no longer have to walk in darkness? How I thank God for sending His Light into the world as He promised so long ago when He said ‘These are the things I will do, and I will not leave them undone.’ (Isaiah 42:16.) Lord, I come before You today with praise and thanksgiving. I love You, I am in awe of You and I thank You for Your marvelous Light and for precious promises kept!
Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise in Isaiah 42:16. He’s not just the precious Light of the world; He’s the Light of our very lives!

A Promise Made
“I will lead the blind by a way they do not know, in paths they do not know I will guide them. I will make darkness into light before them and rugged places into plains. These are the things I will do, and I will not leave them undone.” Isaiah 42:16
This is such a precious promise from God’s word and I believe it applies as much to those who walk in darkness today as it did in the days of Isaiah. How I pray that He will open blind eyes today and guide lost loved ones in paths they do not yet know. He is more than able to turn their darkness into light and make rugged places straight so don’t stop praying for those you love who so desperately need the Lord. Believe that God will do everything His Word has promised and give Him praise!
I love this verse and the promise within. When I meditate upon it I realize just how true it is and how truly dark my world was before I came to know Jesus. I see things completely differently and I walk a much different path and I know He is more than able to do the same for loved ones who are still in darkness.

Blessings for the Blameless
“How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.” Psalm 119:1
I pray that I would strive to walk blamelessly before the Lord today. I pray that His Word is not just hidden in my heart but that it is also at the forefront of my mind so that I would continually walk where He’s leading and in accordance with His law. If that is your desire today as well then you can also thank Him for the blessing that will come as you look to Him to establish your walk. Praise Him and give Him the honor and the glory for whatever He chooses to accomplish in you today. Walk blamelessly and according to His precepts and you will be blessed; His Word says so.
God’s Word promises blessings for those who strive to live blamelessly and who walk according to His precepts. Not only does He bless those efforts He has also made a way, through the Lord Jesus Christ, to make those very things possible.

There is No Other
“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22
There is no other source of salvation and perfect help in every situation and circumstance you will ever face than the Lord God Almighty. He’s the one you can cry out to with all assurance on behalf of unsaved loved ones. He’s your healer, deliverer, your refuge and strong tower and the one who can always be counted upon to stick closer than a brother. Nothing is impossible for Him (Like 1:37), there is no place you can go that His Spirit cannot follow (Psalm 139:8-10) and the Psalms tell us over and over again that His lovingkindness is everlasting and unfailing. Is He your Lord today? Do you fully recognize Him as God; the great I Am who is able to do all things? Do you have that personal relationship with Him that He so deeply desires today? No matter what your need might be today you can turn to Him with confidence.
There is no other besides our God. He can do all things and He does all things well. He saves, heals, restores and delivers those who turn to Him for help.
We Are the Laborers
“And He was saying to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2
I’m afraid I must admit that I don’t always see the harvest that is right in front of me. Worse, I’m afraid I sometimes purposely look away. Harvesting is hard work and it takes desire, dedication and strength but it’s also important to remember that without the planting of seed there will be no season of harvest. If you have a burden for the lost and hurting people in the world around us you have a responsibility, as I do, to pray for laborers and for God’s directions as you find your own place in the workforce. Will you plant the seeds, help bring in the harvest or perhaps do a little bit, or a lot, of both? Pray for laborers that are already in the field and as you pray for others to be sent listen to what the Lord would have you do today to help bring in that plentiful harvest of lost and hurting souls.
There is much to do and so little time in which to do it. I suspect there are plenty of would be laborers who either don’t recognize the harvest before them or who think that someone else will do what needs to be done to bring that harvest in. Sadly, that is not always the case.

Keep Yourselves in the Love of God
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.” Jude 20-21
I not only want my own measure of faith to be increased but also the faith of my loved ones and my brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. I pray daily that our Heavenly Father would keep us in His love and strengthen us by His Holy Spirit as we wait upon Him (waiting and listening for His still, small voice is such an important part of prayer.) I pray that I would be able to encourage others today and that my example of faith might serve to build up one whose faith is weak. Avail yourself of His mercy today as you pray that through your own testimony of what He’s done for you that others might also realize His great mercy.
Don’t forget to pray for others who might be weary, lost or struggling today. Pray in the Spirit and keep yourselves in the love of God.

Use Your Gift Liberally
“Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.” 1 Timothy 4:14
Pastor Holder has been preaching a series entitled “It’s Time” and through the last several weeks he’s asked some questions. Who are we? What are we? What are we wanting? These are the questions that I’ve been pondering ever since he asked them. I don’t believe it has ever been more important than it is today that Christians operate in the spiritual gifts we’ve been so liberally given if we are to be the overcoming church that God intended us to be. Come Monday it will be even more important that we not neglect the ministries He’s called us to. We must be able to recognize our gifts and take full advantage of the opportunities we’re presented with to use our gifts to the benefit of others if we are to truly be a light in the world. In other words, using those gifts is nice in the church environment but it’s crucial that we extend the use of those gifts in the workplace, the marketplace and in our neighborhoods if we are to be truly effective as the body of Christ.
One of the saddest statements I’ve ever heard is this; ‘I don’t know what my spiritual gift is’. I think it is particularly sad because I’ve been guilty of saying it myself that is why it is important that we are available to be used by God in whatever way He chooses to use us whenever and wherever He chooses; that might be the way we can best determine what gift He has blessed us with.

Excellence
“For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.” Romans 16:19
As followers of Christ we are to be wise concerning that which is good and to “…abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22). In other words we are to be innocent of evil and we are to abstain from even the very appearance of it. Through obedience to God’s word and the Holy Spirit within we have all the guidance needed to walk in the steps He ordains for us to walk in today. By listening to His voice and following the instructions in His word we will have clear direction concerning everything evil so that we will be able to avoid it and be innocent of it. Aren’t you glad His word is such that we can know without a doubt what is wise, good and pleasing in His sight?
This verse gives us three very important principles; obedience to His Word, knowing and practicing (some translations say being excellent at) what is good, and being innocent of (avoiding completely) that which is evil. Living by those principles produces excellence and brings glory to His name.

Doing Unto Others
“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.” Romans 12:10-13
It is a very good thing to remember the needs of others today, not just our brothers and sisters in Christ, but the lost as well. It’s very important to lift others up to God and it is equally important that we look for opportunities to extend true brotherly love to others as well. Sometimes we’ll be called upon to go out of our way, go the extra mile or be inconvenienced if we are committed to serving the Lord with all diligence. As Pastor Holder has pointed out over the last few weeks we are God’s hand extended and it is through rejoicing with those who rejoice as well as in sharing the trials of those who are being tried that we practice what we preach. It is through devotion to prayer that we devote ourselves to Him and if we devote ourselves to Him and to being all we’re called to be we will apply ourselves more diligently to loving (and serving) others.
Loving others according to God’s Word requires a great deal of action. In love, we are to give others preference, serve them, rejoice with them, persevere with them, pray for them and look out for their needs if necessary. Letting God’s love flow through us is the way we demonstrate our love for Him.

A Good Name
“A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, Favor is better than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1
A good name is certainly something to be treasured and protected, especially when you realize that as a Christian our name is not the only name that is on the line. When we bear the Lord’s name we must always think, walk and speak accordingly. We must strive to always behave in such a way that His holy name would not be tarnished by any of our activities. Maintaining a good name is just another reason why the daily renewal of our minds is so important. Walking in steps He has ordered is the best way to maintain your good name, bring honor and glory to His name and find favor with God and others.
A good reputation is a powerful thing and once shattered it might take years to rebuild. When we act in accordance with His good name we will have a good name as well.

God’s Powerful Word
“But what does it say? ‘THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART’--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:8-10
It is my prayer that I would never take my salvation or God’s Holy Presence in my life for granted and I’ve found that one way to guard against this is daily study of His word. It is through daily prayer and reading of the word that we become familiar with God’s precepts and as those precepts become more and more familiar they become more and more a part of who we are as believers. Knowing the word and having it near, in our hearts and in our mouths enables us to speak that word of faith whenever He directs. Join me today in praying that the Holy Spirit would renew and empower you to stand for Him no matter what situation you might face. Believe Him and be mindful that it is what we’ve hidden in our hearts that reveals to the world who we really are.
Today we are again reminded that it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. Words are powerful and confessing Jesus as Lord results in salvation!

He’ll Always Answer
“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:13-14
I have learned to take great care in trying to ask for only those things that are in line with God’s perfect will and for those things that will bring honor and glory to Him. Of course, He knows the desire of our heart concerning lost loved ones and I believe that what His Word says is true; that He loves them more than we do. He also knows the desires of our heart in other matters as well and I must regularly lay each one of my dreams and desires at His feet knowing that He only acts in accordance with my best and His glory. Thank Him today for all the answers that are to come and for all He will do in response to all that you ask.
God hears and answers our every prayer; He may not always answer the way we’d like Him to but He always answers with our best interests at heart and in a way that brings Him honor and glory.

Respect Authority
“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” Romans 13:1
I don’t believe it has ever been more important for us to lift up in prayer our president (and president–elect), our state and local officials, our pastors and all who are in positions of authority as well as those in authority in our workplaces and schools. Pray that they are listening to God’s voice and that they are acting in accordance with His will as they make decisions that affect our lives. Pray that they are surrounding themselves with those who would give wise and godly counsel and ask God to help you remember your responsibility to not only pray for them but to respect them apart from whether or not you agree with their every decision because there is no one in authority who has not been established by God. He is the ultimate authority.
We won’t always agree with the decisions made by those in authority over us but God’s Word makes it clear that we are to be in subjection to them, to pray for them and to treat them with respect.

Whatever You Do
“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:17
Some of you may be returning to work after the Thanksgiving holiday, some will be bargain hunting with thousands of other shoppers or perhaps today you just plan to take a breath between holidays. Whatever you find you have to do today do it with a grateful heart. Even the boring, necessary or tedious tasks that are unpleasant or initially unrewarding can bring joy if done as unto the Lord. If your heart is fixed upon Him even the crowds and long checkout lines won’t hinder your peace. Whatever you undertake today do it cheerfully and as though you’re doing it for Him.
I’m afraid I have been guilty of grumbling from time to time when presented with a task that seemed mundane or difficult; then I’ve found myself asking God to forgive me for a bad attitude. I know though, that He is always with me and that He has blessed me with so many opportunities to serve Him through the work He has given me to do; even through the things I don’t like doing. In fact, it is through those very things that often bring the greatest opportunities to serve Him and ultimately the greatest rewards.

Give Thanks
“It is good to give thanks to the LORD And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night,...” Psalm 92:1-2
Today is a good day to give thanks to the Lord and sing praises to His name, not because it is a day set aside for giving thanks but because we are so blessed and He is truly worthy of all our praise! I don’t know about you but I have much to be thankful for today. He’s blessed beyond measure and provided far beyond the need. He loves us, He has a plan for our lives His lovingkindness is beyond comprehension and his faithfulness is never ending and never failing. We have much to be thankful for on this day. Praise Him, declare His lovingkindness, and trust in His faithfulness today and every day. Thank Him for all that He is, all that He’s done and all His plans, blessings and provision and tell Him how much you love Him!
Love him, give Him thanks and praise Him just because of Who He is; the Most High God whose lovingkindness and faithfulness never fail!

Only Through Christ
“He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:5-7
Do we need any more evidence of God’s perfect love for us or any further proof of His mercy, so undeserved? Won’t you allow the Holy Spirit that He has poured out so richly upon His children to renew you today? Thank Him for His righteousness and for His grace, and your inheritance through the Lord Jesus Christ. Know that because of all He’s blessed you with you can hope for all His promises to be fulfilled, both in this life and beyond.
His love for us is truly great and His costly provision for our salvation is expression of that love in its fullest. We never could have earned any of the privileges we have as Christians without His mercy because even the most righteous deeds could never save; only the blood of Jesus could do that.

Wisdom
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
Are you facing a challenge today? Do you need wisdom in making an important decision? This is where wisdom begins; in reverence, obedience and love of the Lord. He is more than able to guide those who love Him in understanding His ways. He wants to teach us how to apply what we know about His precepts to every situation and circumstance in our lives. Daily study of His Word enlightens the eyes of your heart so that His Word will take deep root within and so that you will make every decision with wisdom based upon those precepts and according to His direction. Begin your quest for wisdom the right way, with the fear of the Lord and ask Him for a teachable spirit to fully understand and obey and He will teach you wonderful things!
It really isn’t enough to know what God’s Word says in order to get by in this world. It is essential to apply the precepts of His Word to our everyday life; remember, it is a fool who despises wisdom and instruction. Fear the Lord, in that there is wisdom.

We’d Just Be Lost Without Him
“Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6
I’m so thankful that God has made a way for me to come to Him; through Jesus who is the way, the truth and the Life. I can’t imagine trying to go about life any other way and I’m so thankful that I’ve been set free through His precious truth and the love that He has for me. I never again want to live my life apart from Him. In a few days we celebrate Thanksgiving and the freedom I have in my Lord and His great love for me are always at the top of my list of many blessing for which I am most grateful. Even if there was absolutely nothing else on that list I know I am still blessed beyond measure because Jesus, the way, the truth and the life, has made all the difference in mine.
A most excellent way was provided for us to be able to come to the Father through the blood of Jesus. Wouldn’t you just be lost without Him?

Only One Right Way
“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25
Have you ever tried to do something that God has ordained your own way or in your own strength? Perhaps, like me, you’ve done the right thing for the wrong reason or the wrong thing for what you believed to be a very good reason. Any time we do our thing our way it’s wrong. We must look to our King to order our steps and activities daily and we must follow the precepts in His Word so that we do what is right in His eyes, not our own. Ask Him today to keep your path straight so that you won’t be tempted to do things your own way and to speak to your heart so that you won’t sin against Him by doing what might seem right in the moment but would bring displeasure to Him.
I’m afraid this sounds very much like the world we live in today; everyone doing what is right in his own eyes. There is still only one right way to do things and that is God’s way.

The Shelter of the Most High
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
There is no better place to be than in God’s Hands and there is certainly no other place that I would rather be than in the shelter of the Most High. Are you blessed and thankful to dwell in His shelter and to abide in His shadow today? As His children we are so well cared for, sheltered and protected as our Heavenly Father ever guides and ever teaches us as we abide in His shadow. You can know, without a doubt, that no matter how bad the cares of the world may seem God is always with you as you dwell in His Presence. When you seek shelter in Him you will abide securely.
There is no shelter from the storms and the commonplace of life like that provided by the Most High. Do you abide in His shadow today?

What Defiles the Man?
“And He was saying, ‘That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.’” Mark 7:20
There’s really not a lot that can be added to this verse; I don’t think it needs much clarification or commentary, at least not from me, so instead I will just ask God to help me guard what proceeds from out of my mouth today. As I renew my mind this day I pray that I will strive to have the mind of Christ in all circumstances and situations I face so that when I speak from the abundance of my heart it will be Christ-like and God honoring as well as pleasing and edifying to those who hear.
Remember, bad words usually start as bad thoughts. I’m not talking about profanity, which is defiling by nature. I’m talking about hurtful or angry words, gossip, and lies which can be even more devastating in their power to defile, not the one they are directed at but the one who utters them.

Love Is
“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Yesterday’s devotion dealt with God’s unchanging love for us. If we are to be like Him we must love as He does; patiently and with kindness. God’s love is not arrogant or unbecoming. His love has always sought us and has never taken into account our wrongdoing; instead He’s forgotten (not just forgiven) our sins and cast them as far as the east is from the west. Unrighteousness breaks His heart but He rejoices in truth. Rejoice in that truth today and strive to love as He loves; patiently, with kindness, bearing all things and believing, hoping and enduring all things and follow His example of perfect and unchanging love.
I will confess that I don’t always love as I should. It is for people like me that it is clearly stated in God’s word what love is, does and does not do. I also know that if I am going to be like Him I must love as He does and this verse clearly states exactly what His love is.

Unchanging Love
“Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love.” Micah 7:18
One of the many attributes of God that keeps me in absolute awe is His unchanging love. I am certainly awed by His mercy, grace and forgiveness of sin but that unchanging love, no matter how undeserving we might be, is what sets His perfect agape love apart from all the other loves that we will ever know. He pardons iniquity and his love for the sinner never changes. His anger, that doesn’t remain even in the face of the most blatant rebellion, won’t ever change His perfect love for His children. In fact, the Word says He delights in unchanging love. How I pray that I would delight in my love for Him today above all else!
Throughout the ages God remains the same; yesterday, today and forever. His mercy never changes, He does not retain His anger and He delights in loving His creation, no matter now unlovable we might be; how truly awesome! Will you delight in Him today?

Be a God Pleaser
“For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.” 1 Thessalonians 2:3-4
What a great reminder from God’s Word that we are not to concern ourselves with pleasing the world and those who are of it. It’s good to ask Him to examine our hearts and motives on a regular basis so that if our intentions are wrong, impure or deceitful we might receive correction and get back in step with His plan for our lives. His desire is that we be trustworthy and useable in the place where he has called us; that’s what pleases Him and brings Him glory. Pleasing the world often calls for compromise and then emptiness, even heartache often will follow. Pleasing Him brings joy, peace and satisfaction the world can’t comprehend.
I’m afraid I’ve made far too many decisions based upon what others might think only to find that the world doesn’t seem to care (and knowing He examines my motives can be quite painful). Over the years I’ve learned it is much more satisfying to be a God pleaser and I‘ve made that my number one goal.

Diligence
“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Hebrews 6:11-12
I know that without God’s help I will fail in even my best effort to be diligent and focused as I go about the work He has ordained for me today. Every bit of my hope is in Him and I pray that He will give me strength to apply myself to any task He gives me to do until it is finished. I pray for the ability to faithfully and patiently wait upon Him to order my steps and His Word to light my path. I pray that He will guide my choices and decisions and that as I look to the examples of others I might also be an example of faithfulness and patience. A few weeks ago when Pastor Holder was preaching his series on change he suggested that we might have to change the way we measure success (and failure for that matter.) I now realize that I am successful if I am diligent and obedient to what He has called me to today and at the end of the day no one else may even know if I succeeded or if I failed but I’ll know and so will He!
God’s Word is full of examples of diligent heroes whose actions we can look to and whose stories show that through the diligent pursuit of God’s plan for their lives they did have hope until the end and through their faith and patience they received their inheritance. Diligence is the key!

The Best Way to Be Like Jesus
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” Romans 13:14
I want to make a conscious effort to put on the Lord Jesus Christ today and everyday so that I will have no room for the flesh because there are certain things that have a tendency to draw me away, like greed, anger, envy and most of all, selfishness if I allow them to. In my desire to grow more like Jesus I simply must make that effort to set my self aside and in so doing I pray daily that I will see others and their needs through His eyes of love. Will you put on the Lord Jesus Christ today? It’s the best way I know of to be like Him.
I’m not drawn to carousing, drunkenness or sensuality but I am capable of being quite selfish with my time and my space. Sunday morning in the prayer class we were talking about this very thing and I realized that Jesus was all about sacrifice for the sake of others when He walked this earth; He never once refused an opportunity to minister because He might have been inconvenienced.

Only One Name
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
They say it’s ‘who’ you know, not ‘what’ you know that counts. Aren’t you thankful that we don’t need to know any other name but the name of Jesus? His is the name to call on for salvation, intercession for loved ones, healing, strength, joy and peace and whatever else you might have need of. I am so in awe of His holiness, His sovereignty and the fact that His great love produced such a way, through the glorious name of Jesus, for mankind to have fellowship with Him.
Christians don’t need a Rolodex of names to meet this need or that. There is no other name but Jesus through which we can obtain salvation and in addition His is also the name to call upon for healing, restoration, victory and everything else that we might ever need! His is the only name we ever need to know.

Run With Endurance
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
I used to run three to four miles several times a week until a few years ago when the stress on my knees became too much. I didn’t just decide one day that I was going to be a runner; I had to fix my mind on doing what I needed to do to build up the necessary endurance to run, first one mile, then two. Many a day the time I’d set aside for running seemed as though it would never end and it was all I could do to put one foot in front of the other, but oh how good it felt when I completed that last lap. I hadn’t outrun anyone but I had finished my run for the day and I felt victorious! Our faith walk is much the same and I find it is essential that I fix my eyes, my mind and my heart on Jesus so I don’t become weighed down by the cares of the world or give up when my daily walk with Him becomes difficult. The strength to run the race that is set before us comes only through fixing our eyes on Jesus as we seek His strength for whatever comes our way.
As you practice your faith walk today you will build endurance for tomorrow’s race when you fix your eyes and heart upon Him once again so that you won’t become entangled by sin. As you run today look to the author and perfecter of your faith to build your faith and to supply you with needed strength, joy and peace until the finish line is reached.

A Clean Heart and a Steadfast Spirit
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
I find it best to pray this prayer on a regular basis. Usually a little self examination reveals the need for this as I determine to focus on God and do things His way as part of my morning devotions. When I don’t look to Him for that much needed renewal I often end up doing things my own way and by my own steam which leads to loss of direction, weariness and even discouragement. Ask Him for cleansing and renewal as you go about your day today. He’ll help you to listen to His voice and walk steadfast in the steps He‘s ordained for you so that your plans don’t get in the way of His.
I don’t know about you but my heart needs cleansing and my spirit needs renewing everyday; otherwise I start doing His work my way and soon that turns into my work and that might cause me to falter.

We Each Have a Purpose
“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay;...” Acts 13:36
Today we will elect a new leader to serve our nation for the next four years. I personally believe it is a privilege and a duty to cast our vote according to the Lord’s leading but I also know that God already knows who our next leader is going to be and like David, our next president will serve only as long as God ordains. We must trust God with the future of our country as well as our world. What is more important than how I cast my vote is that God will strengthen me to do that which He has called me to do today so that I won’t waste precious time trying to figure out if I am capable of the work He’s given me to do. I pray that I would boldly and confidently follow Him today as I listen carefully for His voice and wait upon Him for guidance. Time is short but He has given us just enough time to accomplish the purpose for which He created us in our own generation.
Yesterday’s verse addressed our value as His creation. Today, I want to restate that He has a purpose for each and every one He creates; each and every one of us.

How Well He Knows Us
“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7
If there is anything I’ve learned after serving the Lord for some thirty years it is that He knows me so well; better than I know myself, and yet He continues to love me and care for me. I am amazed that He knows every detail about my life; even from the time He formed me in my mother’s womb. He has a plan and I know that I can trust Him to carry out that plan because He has put so much thought into every detail of who I am. Think about this verse as you go about your day today and know that wherever His plans lead you are valuable and the work He has for you to do is valuable, even if you can’t see the value in it.
How amazing that even the hairs on our heads are numbered. We truly are His most valuable creation and each unique one of us has been created with a unique and wonderfully tailored plan. He knows his creation so well.

We Have Instant Favor With Our King
“When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. So Esther came near and touched the top of the scepter.” Esther 5:2
As many of you know, or may have figured out by now, I am absolutely enthralled by Esther’s story; her courage and God’s supernatural work in her life serve as an example we can all look to. Esther has been a real role model for me of late but there is one area in which her story differs a great deal from mine; Esther had a very real problem in regard to approaching her King. Even as the Queen she faced possible execution by entering into the king’s presence uninvited. I am so thankful for the privilege I have through the blood of Jesus to enter freely into my King’s throne room without fear of rebuke or rejection. I am able to call upon Him at will, day or night and He graciously hears my every petition. How I pray that I would never take that blessed privilege for granted and that I would always approach with reverence, love and awe.
Remember how Esther worried that the king might not welcome her into his presence? We never have to face such a concern because through the Lord Jesus Christ we have instant access to the very throne room of God! Awesome, isn’t it?

Guard Your Tongue and Your Soul
“He who guards his mouth and his tongue, guards his soul from troubles.” Proverbs 21:23
I am amazed at how often I’ve said something that I know I shouldn’t have said and have been troubled by those words for a very long time afterwards. One of the most profound pieces of advice I was ever given was given to me when I was rehearsing something I was going to say to someone who had hurt me terribly. The advice was this: “Before you speak out imagine you have an angel on your tongue.” We might not have angels on our tongues but with the Holy Spirit within us we ought to be able to ask for His help in this regard. He’ll never stop us from saying anything we shouldn’t say but He will give us ample warning and opportunity to monitor our words if we allow Him to be the guardian of our tongues. If we are going to be successful in our pursuit of peace with all men guarding our tongues goes along way in that pursuit. The other benefit is that in doing so we can also guard our soul from troubles.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you guard your tongue today so that you don’t bring trouble upon yourself or dishonor your Father in Heaven. As you apply principles from God’s Word to every thought your words and deeds will be pleasing to Him and your soul will be saved from trouble.
