“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.” Proverbs 25:21-22
These words from Solomon, one of the wisest men that ever lived, appear to contain an ulterior motive. So look ahead to what Jesus had to say on the subject of how we should treat our enemies. "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” Luke 6:27. If you’ve ever had a question about how you should treat someone who hates you or ridicules your beliefs question no more. It isn’t so much a question of how they will respond to that love it is a question of what is in our heart and how we are to respond to them. If we love Jesus we must follow His example of love whether or not that love is ever returned.
Loving an enemy can be a difficult thing to accomplish but remember first, that nothing is impossible with God and second, there is really only one enemy and it isn’t the mean coworker or the gossiping neighbor; that enemy is the devil.
