Pride: A Very Public Enemy

“When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2

Without a doubt, pride is one of a Satan’s most deadly weapons and the sin of pride has brought dishonor to many a Christian. Pride has destroyed friendships and marriages; pride has made its way into our workplaces, neighborhoods, and even our churches and I’m afraid that it not only brings dishonor to the prideful but that it often brings dishonor to God, the One we represent, as well. I, for one, must pray daily for wisdom in dealing with pride so that I might recognize it and put it aside because I belong to Christ and He is reflected in everything I say, do and think and my heart’s desire is to bring Him only glory.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had an incredible experience with the Lord only to have that experience followed by an absolutely humiliating incident. Every time this has happened it has been because pride has reared its ugly head. Pride has no place in the heart of a Christian; the Lord wants to have the honor and the glory for our victories because that honor belongs to Him, not us.
