The Shepherd and the Lamb

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.” Matthew 11:29

A familiar picture of Jesus, and one of my favorites, is one where He is pictured as the Good Shepherd carrying a little lamb across His shoulders. Of course we see Him as the gentle Shepherd in the picture but I think what I love so about this depiction is that it reminds me of the realization that when He spoke the words in these verses He knew full well the cross was ahead. The Good Shepherd willingly took on the role of the Lamb, gentle and humble in heart, as well as the role of Savior, the One Who would provide rest for our souls.

There truly is much to be learned from Jesus example of gentleness and at the end of the day it is through following His example of meekness and humility that will bring the ultimate in peace and rest for weary souls.
