Submit and Resist

“But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:6-7

It is good to remember that pride goes before a fall and we should also remember that pride is sin and in direct opposition to God. We need to remember these things because pride is an integral part of human nature and one of the most difficult areas of the flesh we have to overcome. In fact, the flesh can’t be overcome without God’s grace. It is only through submission to God that we are able to resist the devil and I believe this is especially true when it comes to arrogance and pride. The flesh just doesn’t like to be wrong and the devil knows it. As we submit to God we realize it just doesn’t matter whether we’re right or not, only that He is glorified in us. Submit to God today and ask Him to show you how to be truly humble and truly Christ-like. Submit your life, your dreams, your desires and needs and He will truly give you greater grace.

Sometimes an attitude of pride seems to sneak up on me out of nowhere then I realize that I haven’t properly submitted myself to God. Resisting the devil is only half of the solution, submitting to His grace is the all important other half of the equation; resistance is impossible with submission.
