“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Do you sometimes find you have to make it a priority to set your heart on whatever is true, honorable and right? It’s true that the world isn’t always set on such things; in fact the exact opposite is more often the case. That’s why it is so important for believers to dwell on that which is pure, lovely and of good repute. Strive for excellence in your thinking today so that your words and your actions will bring honor and glory to God. Instead of dwelling on all that is wrong and contrary to God’s Word make a commitment to set your heart on things that are worthy of praise and I believe things will look better to you and you’ll be a blessing to others as well.
Sometimes this is a tall order, especially in the world we live in where we are surrounded by so much that is dishonorable, wrong, impure and unjust. That’s when I am reminded that Paul was in jail when he wrote these words to the Philippians! If he could think on such things in his circumstance surely I can do the same in mine.
