Who Do You Serve?

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Matthew 6:24

I’m ashamed to admit it but at times I’ve been guilty of placing far too much emphasis on wealth and have had to ask God’s forgiveness more than once for thinking more about things that I don’t have instead of appreciating all that He’s so abundantly blessed me with. I truly want to serve only Him and I want to devote myself only to what He has called me to do; not the world and the things that are of it. Make it your prayer today that God will replace the desire for things with a desire to serve Him and to bless others. Loving God and devoting ourselves to Him is what brings joy and peace into our lives; money and all it can buy can never do that.

First Timothy 6:10 tells us that the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil. We are to flee from that evil pursuit and pursue Him, our first love and our master; He wants and deserves first place in our hearts.
